1. Glendora's Strategic Plan emphasizes preserving the city's sense of community values while planning for changes including housing needs, state requirements, economic conditions, and changing demographics.
a) What do you believe defines Glendora's character?
I believe that some of the best characteristics of Glendora include the relationships between neighbors and friends, the community events that bring together people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs, and the high level of volunteerism. One of the unique things about Glendora is that the relationships provide for a small town feel amid the amenities of a larger city and the proximity of both the foothills and a larger metropolitan area.
b) How should the city balance preserving what residents value about Glendora with planning for such changes?
I believe that we can preserve those things that residents value about Glendora by being strategic and targeted in growth and housing development, and by maintaining facilities and infrastructure that evolves with the needs of the community.
2. Glendora includes residents of different backgrounds, ages, family structures, and life experiences.
a) What does it mean to you for Glendora to be a welcoming community?
To me it means welcoming and including all residents, and being committed to creating a Glendora where all residents can thrive.
b) What role, if any, should the City Council play in making sure residents are heard, treated fairly, and able to participate in civic life?
I believe that the City Council should advocate for all residents to be seen, heard, respected and represented. My hope is that we would model that in our words, actions and policy making.
3. Many of the challenges facing Glendora extend beyond city boundaries and involve the broader San Gabriel Valley.
a) What issues do you think would benefit most from regional cooperation?
I believe that many of our issues benefit from working with our partners across the region. A few of the top issues would be homelessness, transportation, water and energy/utility needs.
b) How would you work with neighboring cities and regional government bodies to address them?
I currently serve on the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments Committee on Homelessness and on the Regional Housing Trust. I believe that it is important for Council Members to serve on regional committees, and network and collaborate with regional partners.
4. What experience, qualifications, or perspective would you bring to the City Council?
First and foremost, I bring a love for the community and a desire to serve. In addition, I bring over 30 years of community service in Glendora and 21 years of leadership on the Glendora City Council, and several years of working in partnership with regional, state and federal partners. My perspective is to bring people together to move Glendora forward and have it continue to be a great community to live, work and play.
